It’s Turkey Time! 3 Ways to Cure Holiday Distraction

Are you suffering from a little holiday distraction? I don’t know about you, but it’s easy enough to get diverted during the holiday season. If you’ve been shopping (even in the grocery store) lately,  you know what I mean-this is the time of year everyone (including me) marvels at how the year just seemed to blow on by. A friend recently confided that between monitoring her social media presence and doing a little pre-holiday shopping, it’s conceivable that she won’t step out of her office until January.

It’s tempting, isn’t it? interesting to see that a whole host of stores will open even earlier this year (some at 5:00 on Thanksgiving!). According to the Today show, however, just as many are keeping their doors closed until the traditional Black Friday begins. Do you want to get closer to your customers? When the world’s spinning too fast , it’s entirely possible for us to believe we can be everywhere, all of the time. It’s also possible to get so tied up in end-of-the-year reports, strategic plans and general clean up that we forget that we need to take care of our customers.  If your holiday season is going by in a blur, here are 3 ways to stay on track and get closer to your customers.

Be visible: There’s a reason the Internet hasn’t taken over absolutely everything—after all, real-live stores and restaurants still exist.  Here’s the secret: people crave personal attention. Take a walk around the office or grab a cup of coffee with your team.  Now’s a great time to get our from behind your laptop or your iPad and spread a little HoHoHo.

Be passionate: What floats your boat? No, really. What makes you excited about your work? Passion is contagious, and so is great leadership. If you’re fired up about what you do, your clients and employees will be too. So think about your passion: it’s contagious.

Be authentic:  The best leaders are those who influence and inspire us, and who are authentic. Face it, employees—and customers—know when we aren’t. And it isn’t as easy to earn trust and respect as it used to be.  In fact, recent studies say that authenticity in leadership trumps likability.
